Mr. Calvin Lee Sholl, 80, passed away peacefully Monday, July 24, 2023, at his home with his family by his side.

Calvin was born December 2, 1942, in Galesburg, the son of Elmer D. and Margaret (Scott) Sholl. He married the love of his life, Margo Mahle in 1979 in Rock Island, Illinois and together were married for 44 years. She survives.

Also surviving are his children, Pamela Stout of Kalama, Washington, Jeffery (Jennifer) Sholl, Marlo (Brad) Abernathy and Cassie (Kris) Parrish all of Galesburg; six grandchildren, Zach, Bryce, Jessica (Dan), Torri. Victoria (Brad) and Althea; six great grandchildren; and his two longtime friends, Mac Plummer and Rusty Frakes. He is preceded in death by his parents, his stepmother, Shirley Sholl, his sister, Michelle and her husband Paul Crawford and his in-laws, Frank and Margaret Mahle.

Calvin graduated from Galesburg High School in 1960 and began working for Roger Brothers Wholesale at an early age as a delivery driver. He later went on to work for R & B Distributors as a salesperson and delivery person. Calvin had an outgoing personality and made friends easily, which he displayed well in his line of work. He retired in 2013 from First Student Transportation as a school bus driver. Calvin had a love for kids, not only his own but his children’s friends he considered part of his family.

Calvin also kept busy piddling around in his garage and working in his yard. He was a talented woodworker and grill master for his family and friends. Calvin could often be found sitting on his front porch with his other faithful companion, Maggie. Calvin was a member of Elks Lodge #894.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 am Thursday, July 27, 2023, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Paul Lydic officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 am Thursday at the chapel. The burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations may be made to the Fresenius Kidney Care of Galesburg or to establish a fund to be used for Calvin’s grandson, Bryce’s Communication Classroom (Autism) at Galesburg High School, checks c/o Margo Sholl.
