Mr. Glenn A. Rigdon, 87, passed away peacefully at 9:15 pm Monday, July 17, 2023, at his home surrounded by family.

Glenn was born April 27, 1936, in Yuma, Colorado, the son of Wayne Armin and Bertha Lee (McClanahan) Rigdon. He married the love of his life Loraine E. James on May 29, 1959, in Greentop, Missouri and was married 64 years. She survives.

Also surviving are his children, Stephen W. (Lynn) Rigdon of Champaign, Illinois, Lisa K. (Douglas) Sanders of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Vicky L. (Tony) Stotler of Warrensburg, Missouri, Todd A. (Angeli) Rigdon of Des Moines, Iowa and Julie A. (Brian) Howard of Williamsfield, Illinois; sister-in-law, Sonja Rigdon of Queen City, Missouri; seventeen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Charles and Verl Rigdon and his foster sister, Buena Walters.

Glenn graduated from high school in Greentop, Missouri in 1954 and from Northeast Missouri State Teachers College in 1959. He later earned his master’s degree. He moved to Galesburg in 1961 and began teaching science at Lombard Junior High School. He also taught classes at Carl Sandburg College, retiring in 1976. Glenn enjoyed farming as well, tending to his hogs, cattle, corn and soybean fields until 2019.

Glenn was a devoted member of Bethel Baptist Church. He served as a Sunday School teacher and was instrumental within the church support groups, especially divorce care groups. Glenn had an empathetic heart and a listening ear for the hurting. He would point them to Jesus for their healing. Glenn volunteered his time as a chapel speaker with the Galesburg Rescue Mission. One of his favorite pastimes was watching baseball, he enjoyed both the St. Louis Cardinals and the Chicago Cubs.

Visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 pm Sunday, July 23, 2023, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel. Funeral Services are scheduled for 10:00 am Monday, July 24, 2023, at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Chad Torrison and his son, Rev. Stephen W. Rigdon officiating. The burial will be in Warren County Hope Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Gideons, Galesburg Rescue Mission or Bethel Baptist Church. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com
