Patricia J. Gibb,91, of Monmouth, IL, passed away at 9:10 a.m., Thursday, August 17, 2023 at Courtyard Estates of Monmouth.

She was born April 20, 1932 in Jacksonville, IL, the daughter of Walter and Verla (Baker) Williams.  She was raised and educated in Concord, IL and graduated as Valedictorian from Chapin High School in 1950.  Scholarships allowed her to attend Western Illinois University studying the Cello, French Horn, and Piano, graduating in 1954 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education and a minor in Business.   

Pat married Donald H. Gibb on June 9, 1957 at the Concord Christian Church in Concord, IL, and he preceded her in death on July 17, 2005.

Pat taught music and vocals in the school system beginning in Farmington, IL.  She met Don, a school principal at Hanna City when the two schools sponsored a mixer.  Also, she gave private piano and instrumental lessons in her home.  Pat taught clients’ basic life skills in reading, writing, and mathematics at Achievement Industries in Monmouth for many years.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Monmouth where she was active with the Choir, and served as assistant choir director for years.  Pat played for church and was a Sunday school teacher, superintendent, youth group leader and involved with Missionary Circle as well. She was also a member of the Chapter LE, PEO, Retired Teachers’ Association, served as an election judge, IHSA music judge for many years and volunteered at Community Memorial Hospital.  Most of all, Pat enjoyed her family and assisting others when needed.

Survivors include her sons, Dr. Gregory (Scheralyn) Gibb of Evans, GA and Douglas (Julie Gibb) Gibb of Galesburg; grandchildren, Luke (Ivey) Gibb of Warrenville, SC, Kayla (Craig) Spivey of Sanford, NC, Zachary (Kylee) Gibb of Roanoke, VA, and Jordan Gibb of Des Moines, IA.  Also surviving are twelve great grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, Willard (Rose) Williams of Macomb, IL and Richard Williams of Chicago, IL; her sisters, Mary (Jack) Hubbard of Barry, IL and Jane (William) Onken of Minneapolis, MN, and many nieces and nephews. 

The Gibb family would like to thank the wonderful services of Compassus Hospice for its great compassion and care during Pat’s journey home. 

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 26, 2023 at the First Christian Church of Monmouth with Rev. Jim Epperson and Chaplain Jordan Knight officiating.  Final resting place will be in Warren County Memorial Park, Monmouth, IL.  Memorials can be made to the First Christian Church of Monmouth or to a charity of the donor’s choice.  McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL, is in charge of the arrangements.
