Miss Faythe Marie Brannon, 52 of Chicago, Illinois formerly of Galesburg passed away unexpectedly Sunday, September 10, 2023.

After graduating from high school, Faythe earned her bachelor’s degree from Southern Illinois University and two master’s degrees in education and computer Science. Faythe dedicated her life’s work to supporting, uplifting, and empowering her students during her tenure teaching and leading professional development in Chicago public schools. Faythe was a loving daughter, sister, aunt, mother figure, mentor, and friend.

Faythe served as President of the CSTA (Computer Science Teachers Association) Chapter in Chicago. She was a leader of professional learning for Exploring Computer Science in Chicago and nationally. Faythe was a pioneer and led the Bowen High School Robotics Team. She Hosted several Robotics Tournaments/ Competitions (20+ teams) for inner city schools. She was the lead to Bowen High School being recognized for female diversity in Computer Science 2022 College Board AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award. Faythe also was a member of the National Council of Negro Women Chicago Central Section, whose mission is to lead, advocate for and empower women of African descent, their families, and communities.

Those close to her know the extent to which she loved and supported her people. Faythe was an avid traveler, enjoyed exercising, spending time with her family and friends, and took great pride in her natural hair and sharing her hair secrets with others. When spending time with Faythe, she was always the life of the party. Her smile was contagious, and her bigger than life personality was infectious.

Faythe was the loving aunt of Kairn (Ann), Kiara, Arlan, Jon III, Jayla and Kele’. Faythe’s circle of love included her best friends from college Steve Budd and Lynette Clontz, her devoted Chicago Public Schools family, her beloved group of friends affectionately known as ‘The Golden Girls’, and the endless number of students she took under her wing.

Faythe is survived by her mother, Regina Mae Brannon, Galesburg, sisters Alicia (Hector) Brannon-Canario, Chicago, Christine (Monty) Brannon-Dortch, Galesburg, Kimberly (Jon) Brannon-Sibley, Galesburg, brother Fred Jones, Galesburg. Siblings Cameron Roulds, Kenosha, Calla (Danielle Cusimano) Roulds, Chicago and Tauna (Chris) Smith, Tacoma and her grandmother Barbara Long.  Faythe is also survived by a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents Christine and Floyd Brannon, her father Phinez Roulds, and her siblings Tanica and Tyler Roulds.

Visitation will be held from 11:00-1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 16, 2023, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel. Her Memorial Service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the chapel with Pastor Tony Franklin officiating. Memorials may be made to the family to establish a scholarship fund in Faythe’s name. Online condolences may be made at ww.h-p-w.com. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in Chicago.
