Tevin Baker Named MWC Defensive Performer of the Week

Monmouth College senior Tevin Baker (Kewanee, Illinois) was named Midwest Conference Football Defensive Performer of the Week on Monday. Baker, a defensive end, had a monster game on Saturday with a career-high four sacks, 4.5 tackles for loss, a fumble recovery, eight total tackles, four QB hurries and a pass break up in a 39-6 win over Chicago.

His presence on the defensive line helped limit Chicago to just 50 rushing yards on 29 carries for a 1.7 average and the Maroons had just one score in the game. Baker’s 4.5 TFL resulted in 16 yards loss and his four sacks are tied for the second most in a game in Scots history.

“I thought Tevin had one of the best games in his career,” said Monmouth football coach Chad Braun. “He had a great week of practice this week and it translated into his play of the field.”

Baker is the second football player to win a MWC award this season after wide receiver Nate Thornton (Peoria, Illinois) won the offensive award last week. The Scots head to Appleton, Wisconsin for a 1 p.m. game on Saturday against Lawrence.
