Patricia Ann “Pat” Collins, 78, formerly of Knoxville, Illinois, died Tuesday, January 9, 2024 at Seminary Manor, Galesburg.

Pat was born July 9, 1945 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of James Floyd and Florence Belle (Doty) Davenport who preceded her death.  After graduating from Jerseyville high school Pat worked as a talented hairdresser and stylist and attended SIUE where she earned her BS in education.  As a lifelong educator, Pat began in East St. Louis, IL where she taught English.  She later worked as the dean of students at Galesburg High School from 1991-1993.  Pat became principal at Centralia High School, Union High School, and later Bureau Valley High School before retiring in 2006.

Pat is survived by her two sons, Jim (Bonnie) Markham of Jerseyville, Illinois and Gene (Chris) Markham of Gilbert, Arizona; two daughters, Christina (Kevin) Groppel of Fort Knox, Kentucky and Patricia (Jeremy) Nalley of Gilson, Illinois; eight grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.

Pat loved to be outdoors, especially tending to her flower and vegetable gardens.  She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed sewing.  Pat’s many talents included dancing and singing.  She had a great love for her cats, enjoyed shopping and later in life shopping online.  In her free time she enjoyed watching soap operas on television and reading a good book.  

Pat will be remembered as a loving and caring woman, whose honesty was appreciated.  She was always there for anyone in need to lend a comforting hand or words of wisdom.

Cremation will be accorded.  Private family services will be held.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.  Memorial contributions may be directed to Knox County Humane Society.  Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.watsonthomas.com.
