Randal E. Shimmin, 70, of Roseville, Illinois, passed away Monday, January 1, 2024 at 2:48 PM at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg, Illinois. He was born on Wednesday, March 18, 1953 in Monmouth, Illinois, the son of Cecil R. and Evelyn M. (Corzatt) Shimmin. 

Randal attended Roseville Elementary school and graduated from Roseville High School in 1971. He then earned an Associates Degree in Animal Science at Black Hawk East College in Kewanee, Illinois. After graduation, Randal returned home and continued working on the family farm.

Randal married Jane Marie Campagna on June 22, 1985 at Immaculate Conception Church in Monmouth, Illinois, and they were married for 38 years.

Randal was very active in the Happy Hustlers 4-H Club and Roseville High School FFA. He showed beef, swine, and poultry at the county and state levels. While attending Black Hawk East College, he was a member of the college’s very first livestock judging team, under the instruction of Dan Hoge. Randal became the Jr. Poultry Superintendent at the Illinois State Fair in 1983 and continue to work there for 19 years.

Randal has been a life member of the Roseville United Methodist Church, a life member of the National Rifle Association, a member of the Warren County Sportsman’s Club, the Warren County Saddle Club, and the Warren-Henderson Farm Bureau. He was a big supporter of 4-H, FFA, the Prime Beef Festival, and the Warren County Fair.

Randal enjoyed farming, hunting, trapping, and poultry judging. Mostly, he loved his family, being a Dad and Grandpa.

Randal is survived by his wife, Jane, his daughter Randi (Quinn) Higgins, and his son, Kodiak Shimmin. His mother Evelyn and three siblings, Lynn (Peggy) Shimmin, Celia (Mark) Buss, Ann (Kris) Kappenman, brother-in-law Curtis (Diana) Campagna, one granddaughter Avery, and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Randal is preceded in death by his father Cecil and his brother, Bruce.

A funeral service for Randal Shimmin is planned for 10:30 AM on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at the Roseville United Methodist Church in Roseville, Illinois. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM on Friday, January 12, 2024 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois. Interment will follow the service at Lenox Union Cemetery, rural Monmouth, Illinois. Memorials are being established for the Warren County 4-H or the Roseville United Methodist Church in Roseville, Illinois.
