Marilyn Jane Shawver, 77, of Winterville, Georgia passed away on Friday, January 26, 2024.

Born June 30, 1946 in Monmouth, Illinois, she was the daughter of the late Ben and Jean Shawver.

Marilyn is survived by her children Kimberly McGee Johnston (David), Ryan McGee (Bekah) and by her grandchildren Sarah Johnston, Zach McGee and Anna McGee. She is also survived by her brothers James Shawver, David Shawver and Charles Shawver as well as by nephews Andy Shawver, Tim Shawver and niece Kate Shawver.

As a dedicated early childhood educator Marilyn taught in the Georgia public school system in Athens, Georgia and Elberton, Georgia (1976-1989). With a spirit of adventure,  she moved overseas to teach in the International School System in Malaysia, Indonesia and China (1989-2004).

Marilyn was recognized for her excellence in teaching and for her kind, gentle approach with her students.

She retired in 2004 to Winterville, Georgia and enjoyed contributing to her community through her involvement with the local library board and community gardening.

A private celebration of Marilyn’s life will be held at an unspecified date. 

Family and friends will be notified when the date is set.
