Nominate a Veteran: Hoops for Heroes

Share

Western Illinois University Athletics, in partnership with the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC), is proud to announce the Hoops for Heroes Initiative, through which a local military veteran will be selected to attend the OVC basketball championship in March.

The OVC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) chose to honor veterans through a league-wide community service project tied to the OVC Basketball Championship. A local military veteran will get the chance to go to the OVC basketball championship in Evansville, IN, in March. The veterans honored will be current students, alumni, or the parents of an active-duty military member. More information about the fundraiser the Hotcakes for Heroes Fundraiser can be found at bit.ly/3SMMeCu.

As a military-friendly institution, WIU is proud to participate in this endeavor and is seeking nominations for veterans to represent WIU Athletics at the OVC basketball championship. The OVC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournament will take place March 6-9 at the Ford Center in Evansville. The veteran selected to represent WIU will receive funds for transportation and food; the Ohio Valley Conference provides recipients with tournament tickets and hotel accommodations.

Nominations are being accepted at https://forms.gle/mjhEoPA78cqLkdMw7 until midnight on Monday, Feb. 12; WIU’s nomination will be announced on Friday, Feb. 16.
