The Songbag Concert Series is named for Carl Sandburg’s collection of songs and stories The American Songbag. The series aims to present an array of musical showcases that honor the legacy of Carl Sandburg as a poet, writer, activist, musician and prophet. Much of Sandburg’s work beautifully tells tales of wisdom and wit– and The American Songbag reminds us of his respect and admiration of the troubadour, the bard, the musician that tells life’s stories through song.

This season’s opening concert features Bell & Field on March 10, 2024. With their spot-on harmonies, this folk-rock duo will breathe new life into your old favorites!

Songbag Concerts are hosted in The Barn at the Carl Sandburg State Historic Site: 313 E. Third Street, Galesburg. The first set starts at 2:00pm, and the second starts at 3:15. Refreshments served between sets. Songbag Concerts are presented by the Carl Sandburg Historic Site Association and Illinois Department of Natural Resources. Additional funding in part by the Mark & Celia Godsil Family Fund, a Donor Advised Fund of the Galesburg Community Foundation. A donation of $5 per person is suggested when attending Songbag Concerts.
