Wanita E. Way, 91, of St. Peters, Missouri, formerly of Abingdon, died at home on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born December 22, 1932, in Abingdon, the daughter of Vernon and Hilma (Roberts) Boyer. She married Robert Lee “Bob” Way on December 26, 1950, in Abingdon. He preceded her in death on April 26, 2022, after nearly 72 years of marriage.

She is survived by three daughters, Dawn (Mike) Sandheinrich of St. Peters, Missouri, April (Rick) Edwards of St. Peters, Missouri, and Julie Way of O’Fallon, Missouri; three grandchildren, Justin and Jonathan Sandheinrich and Kaylee Way; two great-grandchildren, Aaden and Ian Moss; two sisters, Marna Johnson and Peg Thomas, both of Abingdon; a brother, Danny Boyer of Rapatee; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Joyce Hensley, Holly Powell, and Jackie Timberlake; and three brothers, James Boyer, Donny Boyer, and Larry Boyer.

Wanita was raised and educated in Abingdon, where she graduated from Abingdon High School in 1950. She worked at the former Blue Bell Factory for a time, then at Protexall in Galesburg for over 20 years before retiring.

She was a member of the Lighthouse United Pentecostal Church in O’Fallon, Missouri. Wanita loved to bake pies and she will be remembered fondly for the more than 150 baby quilts that she made over the years.

Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, February 12, 2024, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services of Abingdon. Funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Brandon Buford officiating. Burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lighthouse United Pentecostal Church.
