Alan Welty, age 74, of Thomson, Illinois and formerly of Monmouth, passed away at 5:39 pm on Saturday March 9th at Midwest Medical Center in Galena, Illinois. Alan was born on May 13, 1949 in Monmouth, Illinois and is the son of Allen M. and Betty Jean Lusk Welty. Alan was first raised in Alexis where he attended local schools and came to Monmouth in 1964 where he attended and graduated from Monmouth High School in the class of 1968. He later attended Carl Sandburg College for a time later worked in the wheel plant of the CB&Q railroad. He then was employed by Gale Products where he received schooling in Tool and Die work. He later was employed by John Deere of Moline in tool and die for seven years, Alan also worked part time for the Alexis Police Department and also was a member of the Monmouth Auxillary Police. For the next sixteen year Alan was a correctional officer at the Henry Hill Correctional Center in Galesburg, Illinois and did security work at Knox College in Galesburg. He also worked at Olson’s Refurbishing in Galesburg and was a tool and dye inspector at Mid-state Manufacturing.
Alan loved Archery and hunting and did take two bears as tropheys. He is survived by his wife, Susan of Thompson, IL; two daughters, Malinda “Mindy” Myers of Little York, IL. and Tristen S. Welty of Abingdon, IL. There are four grandchildren surviving, Devon Myers, Connor Myers, Lauren Welty, and Tucker Welty. Two great grandchildren survive, Aurora French, and Kai McCormick. Alan’s half brother survives, Troy Welty in Aledo, Illinois. He is preceded in his death by his parents, one sister Jennifer (Welty) Clark, and his grandson, Kyle Myers.

A funeral service for Alan is planned on Friday March 15, 2024 at 11:00 am at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois, with burial in Silent Home Cemetery in Cameron, Illinois. His family plans visitation and will receive friends at Turnbulls on Friday from 10:00 to 11:00 am. A memorial fund is being established for the American Heart Association.
