Gary Lynn Fross, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a man of unwavering faith, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2024, in Dunedin, Florida, at the age of 80.
Born to Phyllis C. Fross in Chicago, Illinois, on May 2, 1943, during the tumult of World War II, Gary’s early years were shaped by the resilience and strength that marked his generation. His father, Gayle J. Fross was away bravely serving his country, leaving Gary to be nurtured by his mother.
In March 1964, Gary married Charlene K. Olson, and together they embarked on a journey that spanned 42 years, blessed with five children – Gregory A. Fross, Lynnette L. Fross, Nancy K. Fross, Marci L. Fross, and David M. Fross. Charlene preceded Gary in death in 2006.
In 2007, Gary found love again when he married Carol Dowell Bradford. They were together until 2016 while residing in Tampa, Florida.
A hardworking and dedicated provider, Gary held various occupations over the years. He worked as a farmer, mechanic, truck driver, and later as a courier. Gary took tremendous pride in supporting his family through his diligent labor.
In his free time, Gary enjoyed spending quality moments with friends and family. He had a fondness for bowling, playing card games like bridge, and savoring opportunities to share laughs thanks to his great sense of humor. Gary also loved trivia, had a passion for old tractors, and relished opportunities to travel.
Gary’s life was an embodiment of his unwavering faith in God. From his early days as an active member of Bethel Baptist Church in Galesburg, Illinois, to his later years attending Town ‘N Country Church of the Nazarene in Tampa, Florida, his faith guided his every step and enriched his relationships.
In addition to his children, Gary is survived by his siblings Doris A. Armstrong, Dennis L. Fross, Teddy J. Fross, Richard M. Fross, and Timothy A. Fross. His legacy also lives on through his cherished grandchildren – Adam, Joseph, Lake, Karch, Becker, Gunner, Starley Ann, Megan, Andrew, and June – and his great-grandchildren – Mathis, Annalise, Rowan, Holland, Phoebe, Kyber, and Liliana.
Gary passed away due to acute respiratory failure, heart failure, dilated ischemic cardiomyopathy, and coronary artery disease.
In fulfillment of his wishes, Gary’s ashes will be laid to rest beside his first wife, Charlene, at Memorial Park Cemetery in Galesburg, Illinois.
Though his physical presence may be absent, Gary’s spirit will forever endure through the countless lives he touched and the cherished memories he leaves behind. At this time, no funeral or memorial service is planned.
