Mrs. Patricia Joanne Malone, age 91, of Abingdon, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 11, 2024, at the Knox County Nursing Home while surrounded by her loving family.

Joanne was born September 10, 1932 in London Mills, Illinois, the only child of Clarence Irvin and Alice Loava (Eggers) Combs. Joanne married Elbea Clifford Malone in 1950 in London Mills. He precedes Joanne in death.

Joanne is survived by her children: Ed Malone, Judy (and the late Larry) Wherley, Sharon (and Jim) Asmussen, and Linda (and Mike) Hines; her grandchildren, Brad Butler, Shelly Rhinehart, Emily Nyman, Patti Stoneking, Jesse(and Rebecca) Asmussen, Katie Lubitz, Kristy Weigel, Kelly Biel, Lindsey Titus, Ryan Malone, Natalie Meisner, Grant Malone, Kolt Malone, and Jesse Hines; 23 great grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren; and a very special daughter-in-law, Karita Hines. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Elbea, and a daughter, Jane Butler.

Joanne was born and raised in London Mills. Graduating from Valley High School in 1950, and marrying her husband, Elbea, the same year in the London Mills Methodist Church. Joanne was a part of many organizations, such as: the Abingdon Pottery Club, The Abingdon Historical Society, the Abingdon Fall Festival Board, she was a 50 year member of The Home Extension Association, and even served as the treasurer for the Abingdon Public Library. Most importantly, Joanne was a devoted and loving mother and farmwife.  She especially loved spending time with her beloved family by the lake, that Joanne and her husband created.

Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 am on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at the Abingdon Christian Church. A Funeral service will follow at 11 with Pastor Linda Mowrer and Robert Malone officiating. Burial will be at the Abingdon Cemetery. Memorials may be left in Joanne’s honor to The Abingdon Christian Church, The Abingdon Historical Society, or The Galesburg Rescue Mission.
