Jeanne E. Freed,96, of Brookstone, Mattoon, IL formerly of Monmouth, IL passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at the Willow Breeze Hospice Home, Mattoon, IL

Jeanne was born August 22, 1927 at the family home in Warren County, IL, the daughter of Ralph and Ellen Dora (Smith) McMahon. She was raised and educated in Kirkwood, IL, attending Coonville School, a one room rural school, graduating from Kirkwood High School in 1945. She attended Brown’s Business College in Peoria, IL.

Jeanne married Franklin Johnson on August 20, 1946 in Virginia Beach, VA. She later married Carl Freed in Alexis, IL on May 30, 1955 and he passed away on August 6, 2002.

Jeanne was a bookkeeper for Martin Motor Sales and Johnson -Brown Paint Store both in Monmouth.

She was a member of Faith United Presbyterian Church, where she served as Elder, and Deacon and was active with WNL and the Thai Circle. She also volunteered at OSF Holy Family Medical Center in the giftshop. She enjoyed reading, sewing, puzzles and playing games with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include her children, Marcia Kemmerly of Little Elm, TX, Terry (Janice) Johnson of Upland, CA, Joyce (David) Stivers of Mesa, AZ and Susan (Greg) Gilliland of Mattoon, IL; her grandchildren, Timothy Allen, Robin (Mike) Hinkler, Christin (Marc) Keck, Craig Johnson, William (Jennifer) Stivers, Julia (David Schultz) Stivers, Jennifer (John) Hedges, Kristina (Brett) Compton and Lindsey (Drew) Aberle; her great-grandchildren, Caitlin, Williams, William Johnson, Ryan Johnson, Zoey Keck, Morgan Keck, Brandon Stivers, Hailey Schultz, Haiden Schultz, Alaina Hedges, Camden Hedges, Lucas Compton, Kylie Compton, Adelyn Aberle, Amelia Aberle, Abram Aberle and Alivia Aberle.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandson, Mark Allen and brother, Robert McMahon.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, May 11, 2024 at Faith United Presbyterian Church, Monmouth, IL. Interment will take place at Warren County Memorial Park, Monmouth. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 am at the church. Memorials may be given to Faith United Presbyterian Church.
