One Charged Following Contact with Under Cover Source

On 04/08/2024 Byron Giles made contact with an under cover source. Narcotic Detectives knew Byron Giles to be involved in the distribution of methamphetamine in the Burlington area and that he was awaiting sentencing on a previous Delivery of Methamphetamine charge.

Byron messaged UC: Are you needing anything?

In conversations, Byron agreed to sell a t-shirt of methamphetamine for $50. Narcotics Detectives are aware “Tshirt” is a slang for 1.75 grams of methamphetamine. Byron advised he lived near Division St. and arranged to meet UC in the 1000 Blk of Division St, in Burlington, Des Moines County, Iowa.

Several Detectives were conducting surveillance in this area and observed Byron walk from the area of his residence to the 1000 Blk. of Division St. There Byron was approached by Detectives. Byron was detained and read the Miranda. Byron advised the dope was in his left pocket. This methamphetamine was in small plastic bag, weighed at 2.32 grams with packaging and field tested positive. Byron was subsequently interviewed at the Burlington Police Department and was asked who he sells methamphetamine to. Byron advised “Friends”.

Byron was transported to the Des Moines County Jail and is charged with Possession of Methamphetamine under 5 grams with Intent to Deliver.
