Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending May 12, 2024:

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is junior track and field athlete, Maddox Clark. Maddox brought home four medals from the TRAC championship meet at Rockridge High School. He crossed the finish line 2nd in the 100 meter dash. Maddox was also on three relay teams that placed 2nd, as well.

The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is senior softball player, Maddie Hepner. Maddie had one of the best weeks of her career at the plate last week. In four games, she reached base an amazing 12 straight times, getting 6 hits and 6 walks. Maddie also had two doubles and drove in four runs.

The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is junior bass fishermen, Gage Stimpson and Harry Waugh. The Heat team of Gage and Harry took second place at the sectional meet on the Mississippi River. On a tough day on the water, they reeled in 7 3/4 pounds of bass. Gage and Harry will move on to the state this weekend at Carlyle Lake.

The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is senior track and field athlete, Plamedi Nseka. Plamedi is the Western Big Six Conference champion of the 400 meter dash for the 3rd straight time. He bested another tough field of runners in, arguably, the hardest event in track and field. In addition, Plamedi also ran a leg on Galesburg’s conference winning 4×800 meter relay team.

The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is junior track and field athlete, Sophie Kern. Sophie was the top placing Tornado at the Class 1A sectional meet at Wethersfield High School in Kewanee. She placed 4th in the 300 meter hurdle event. Her time was less than 2.5 seconds from qualifying for the IHSA State Finals.
