The 2024 Illinois Special Olympics Summer Games are scheduled to take place this weekend in Bloomington-Normal. This year’s games are expected to include over 3,500 athletes, 2,500 coaches and volunteers, as well as over 10,000 spectators at Illinois State University, which has been the primary host site for the games since 1977. 2024’s edition of the summer games will feature competition in a wide variety of events such as gymnastics, soccer, bocce ball, powerlifting, and swimming. Special Olympics Athletic Director for Warren County Tom Glenn, who also helps coordinate the yearly Region F qualifier at Sunny Lane Field in Monmouth, says the county will be sending several athletes on to compete in this year’s summer games.
