Wednesday at the Henderson County Fair kicked off with the goat and sheep show. Reid Suddeth, judge of the shows at the Henderson County Fair says that while the sheep show may have been on the smaller side, there was a lot of quality.
“The ones that just stuck out to me, you could definitely tell that the work was done at home. Hide quality, touch, and tone; you can tell the ones that get cared for properly, for lack of better terminology,” says Suddeth. “They were very fresh in their hide condition, very fresh to the touch, the leg wool looked like it had been worked. A big thing today is washing and working the leg wool, making it look fancy, so to speak. And that’s kind of just some of the things that stood out in my champions, along with the fundamentals of muscle and cutability and still having the right show ring, I appeal as well.”

The sheep show at the Henderson County Fair included a few different sibling rivalries, especially with the Gittings family, says Ruby Gittings.
“He told me that I did a great job showing- he even told me that I showed a ewe lamb better than my brother today. And that helped my confidence because we always compete against each other,” says Gittings
For Aubrey Mohr, watching her brothers inspired her to start showing sheep.
“My brother shows, so I wanted to show them as well,” says Mohr. “I try to walk them at home each day and let them set up where they can do.”
