Mary K. Malcolm, 81, of Alpha, died at 11:37 a.m. Tuesday, August 27, 2024, in OSF St. Mary Medical Center.

She was born October 10, 1942, in Galesburg, the daughter of Robert J. and Johnette R. (Anderson) Smith. She married John C. Malcolm on August 22, 1981, at Faith Lutheran Church in Wataga. He preceded her in death on July 20, 2007.

She is survived by her children, Amy Bodenhamer of Galesburg, Betsy Bodenhamer of Galesburg, Edward (Esther) Malcolm of Oak Run, Linda (Mitch) Ekstedt of Altona, and Sharon Marshall (Roger Hagerty) of Galesburg; 12 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Neil Smith.

Mary worked for Protexall for several years. Later, she was an in-home childcare provider. Those close to Mary are likely to have a sweatshirt or other item she crafted as she thoroughly enjoyed counted cross stitch. She enjoyed many mornings having coffee with friends at Table 10. Mary especially enjoyed spending time with her grandkids and great grandkids.

Mary was a 1960 graduate of Galesburg High School and went on to graduate from Brown’s Business College. She was a former member of the Faith Lutheran Church.

As Mary wished, cremation will be accorded. A celebration of life will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, October 19, 2024, at the Wataga Fire Station. Food will be served. Memorial contributions may be made to the family. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral and Cremation Services is honored to serve the family.
