Harold P. Young, age 94, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away at 11:25 pm on Thursday August 29, 2024 at the Knox County Nursing Home in Knoxville, Illinois. Harold was born on August 17, 1930 in Monmouth and is the son of Asa Wallace and Marcia Laverne (Parker) Young. Harold attended Frymire Grade School, graduated from Monmouth High School with the class of 1948 and attended Monmouth College. Harold married Doris F. Gunter on August 11, 1951 at Kirkwood United Methodist Church in Kirkwood, Illinois. She preceded Harold in his death on December 20, 2021. Harold began his career farming the family farm in Monmouth, raising grain and livestock, from which he retired from in 1992. He is a lifetime member of Coldbrook Christian Church and was treasurer of Mosher Cemetery for over 60 years. Harold enjoyed going to and being part of many tractor pull events locally and at county fairs. Harold and Doris began selling mini-bikes and ATVs in the late 1960s. They expanded their business into various recreational vehicles.  Harold earned his private pilots license in 1973 and owned his own plane, air strip, and hangar. In the early 1990’s, Harold and Doris began ” Young’s Luxury Limousines ” .Harold and Doris owned two Calliopes, which they enjoyed performing in various events and parades throughout the Midwest for 38 years.

Surviving Harold are two daughters, Marcee Hudson(Jim) of Monmouth, and Patty Hasentein(Mark) of Peoria, Illinois. There are three grandchildren, Andy Hudson of Havana, Illinois, Emily Dolezal (Ben) of North Liberty, Iowa and Joe Hasentein (Krista) of Chicago, Illinois. One great grandchild survives, Chloe Dolezal in North Liberty, Iowa. Harold is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Doris, his son John, and two sisters.

As were Harold’s wishes, cremation is to be accorded. Interment of his ashes will be in Mosher Cemetery on September 10, 2024 at 10:30 am. His family is establishing memorial funds to either Coldbrook Christian Church or to Mosher Cemetery and may be sent to his daughter, Marcee at:  1178 State Highway 164 Monmouth, Illinois 61462.  Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth is in charge of his care.
