Week 5 of the IHSA Football Season Could End with Several Teams Securing Playoff Berths

Share

Week 5 of the high school football season is full of juicy storylines. The biggest one is at Coach Dobry Field in Monmouth, as the Monmouth-Roseville Titans host the Princeton Tigers for a Three Rivers Athletic Conference Large School Division match up. There’s a lot on the line for both ballclubs. With both teams coming in at (4-0) overall, the winner will nearly secure a playoff spot with a 5th win. The Titans and Tigers are both (2-0) in division play, therefore, the winner will have an enormous leg-up on winning the automatic postseason berth. As far as recent history between the two teams, the Tigers have won the last six meetings, including two wins last season. Monmouth-Roseville opened their 2023 season with a 40-0 loss and ended the season with a 35-0 loss in the second round of the playoffs. The last win by the Titans was 50-21 in 2017. Princeton comes into tonight’s game ranked #3 in this week’s class 3A poll, with Monmouth-Roseville receiving votes in the poll, as well. Adding to all that, it’s also Homecoming Week for Monmouth-Roseville. The stars are aligned and head coach Jeremy Adolphson says his ballclub has earned every right to be in this position.

The Titans and Tigers will kickoff at 7:00, with the Sunny 97.7 WMOI pregame show starting at 6:35.

The United Red Storm had high expectations coming into last week’s LincolnLand Small School Division match up against Annawan/Wethersfield. The Red Storm had taken one of the preseason conference favorites, ROWVA/Williamsfield, to overtime in week 4 before falling 42-36. However, another one of the preseason favorites, Annawan/Wethersfield had other ideas, putting 29 second quarter points on the scoreboard on their way to a 42-8 win. The schedule doesn’t get any easier this week for United. (4-0) Princeville comes to United High School for the Red Storm’s Homecoming weekend. United has started the season at (0-4) but head coach Andrew Goodwin says it’s important that his ballclub gets the second half of the season off to a good start.

The Red Storm/Princeville Princes Homecoming game starts tonight at 7:00, so our AM 1330/FM 95.7 WRAM pregame show will start at 6:35. Both games can be heard on the radio at the appropriate stations, live online at radiomonmouth.com or on our free 97.7 WMOI and 1330 WRAM apps for your smartphone or tablet.
