The Abingdon-Avon Tornadoes will close out the regular season at home Friday night with plenty on the line against South Fulton.
A-Town improved to 6-2 last week with a 25-14 win over Rushville-Industry. The Tornadoes led 7-0 at halftime before pulling away in the second half to pick up their sixth win of the season.
Now A-Town turns their attention to the South Fulton Rebels, who also enter at 6-2. The Tornadoes, Rebels, United and Havana all sit at 3-1 in Lincoln Land South Division play heading into the final week, putting the conference title on the line Friday night.
It will also be Senior Night for A-Town, with seven seniors playing their final regular season home game. Head Coach Rick Quinn says he is proud of what this group has been able to accomplish after going through some tough seasons together.
“Great group of kids. We’ve got seven seniors, all contribute in some manner or another, whether they start on offense or start on defense. Really proud of this group because they’ve had three really tough years, and they found a way this year to just go to work and stay together and have that next play mentality. I think the last three years we’ve had seven or eight wins, so it would have been easy for them to kind of be down. But they come to work and they found a way to have a successful senior season, and I hope we get to play a little while longer. Obviously we have two weeks guaranteed, but we are hoping it goes longer than that.”
South Fulton will come in looking to bounce back after a 47-21 loss to United last week, while A-Town will look to make it back-to-back wins and finish the regular season at 7-2.
The Tornadoes and Rebels will kick things off at 7 PM Friday night in Abingdon, with Senior Night festivities beginning at 6 PM.
