The Warren County YMCA Special Needs Athletics Program, known as the Warren County Falcons, traveled to the Chicago Bears training facility on Saturday, October 10, for a special four-team flag football mini-tournament at the Walter Payton Center.

The event offered the Falcons’ Talons team an unforgettable opportunity to compete in a facility connected to one of the greatest legends in Chicago Bears history.

Before taking the field, Coach Teri Parks spoke with the athletes about Walter Payton and the qualities that helped define his remarkable legacy: sportsmanship, teamwork, and attitude. Athletes were reminded that honoring that legacy meant bringing those same qualities onto the field.

The Talons competed in two games, earning one victory while facing strong competition in the other. The Bears organization helped make the experience even more memorable by providing NFL Flag Football jerseys for the athletes. The team also received medallions presented by two former Chicago Bears players, took team photographs, and received special swag bags filled with Bears-themed keepsakes.

The experience extended well beyond the field. Falcons families and supporters came together wearing football-themed necklaces and bracelets, waving pom-poms, and cheering enthusiastically for their athletes. The day also included Chicago-style pizza from Connie’s Pizza, giving everyone another opportunity to celebrate together.

For the Warren County Falcons, the trip represented much more than a football tournament. It was an opportunity to experience a special place in football history, build lasting memories, and celebrate the power of inclusion through sports.

The Warren County YMCA SNAP program continues to provide opportunities for athletes of all abilities to develop skills, build friendships, demonstrate sportsmanship, and experience the joy of being part of a team.

The Falcons returned home with memories to last a lifetime and a reminder that, in sports and in life, teamwork, attitude, and inclusion are victories worth celebrating.
