Dorothy Winfrey Phelps, who was just eleven days shy of her 96th birthday, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, surrounded by her family.

Dorothy was born in Avon, Illinois on October 27, 1928, to Kenneth N. and Mary Margaret Curtis.  Dorothy lived a life devoted to faith and family.  She worked at Security Savings Bank in Monmouth, Illinois for 25 years and volunteered extensively throughout her community.

Dorothy is survived by her sister, Millie Sorrells; five children: Dave (Syd), Debbie, Patty (Glenn), Carol (Mick) and Gary (Sue); 13 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and a host of extended family.  Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 26 years, James F. Phelps, her parents, her brother, Delbert Curtis and grandson Jon M. Ellison.

A visitation will be held at Hinchliff Pearson West Funeral Directors and Cremation Service Galesburg Chapel (1070 W. Fremont St. Galesburg) on Friday, October 25 from 5pm to 7pm.  Funeral services to celebrate Dorothy’s life will be Saturday, October 26 at Harmony Baptist Church (746 N. Hawkinson Ave Galesburg) at 10am with a luncheon to

follow. Interment will be private at the Prairie City Cemetery, Prairie City, Illinois.
