Mr. Robert “Bob” Craig Meredith, 64, of Galesburg, Illinois passed away at 10:06 am Monday, October 28, 2024, at the OSF Richard Owen Hospice Home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Bob was born on March 9, 1960, in Wood River, Illinois, the son of Robert W. and Evelyn Jean (Kaminsky) Meredith. He grew up in Oneida, Illinois, graduating from ROVA High School in 1978, where he enjoyed playing basketball. He continued his education at Carl Sandburg College and William Penn University.
Bob enlisted in the US Air Force serving his country for four years. He was stationed in Wichita, Kansas and Okinawa Japan. Bob was honorably discharged with the rank of Sgt.
Bob married the love of his life, Karen Coleman, on September 26, 1998, at Galesburg Lincoln Park on a very windy day. After 26 years of marriage, Karen survives in Galesburg.
Bob is also survived by his mother, Evelyn Meredith of Galesburg; his two daughters, Alisha Anderson of Galesburg and Summer Hernandez of Temple, Texas; his brother, Thomas “Tom” (Tamara) Meredith of Galesburg; his two sisters, Pamela (Fred) Winterroth of Hanna City, Illinois and Linda (Matthew) Wall of Bloomington, Illinois; five grandchildren, Alexys, David, Angelina, Micah and Winter; his mother-in-law, Mildred Dickerson of Galesburg and his father-in-law, Horace Coleman of Galesburg. Bob is preceded in death by his father, Robert “Bob” Meredith and his grandson, John Robert Hendricks.
Bob worked for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad as a switchman for over 20 years. He was an outdoorsman, loving to fish, ride bikes and golf. He enjoyed his time golfing, specifically at Oak Run, with his friends. Bob was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan and Illini Basketball fan.
A Celebration Visitation is scheduled for 4:00-6:00 pm Thursday, November 7, 2024, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel. Graveside services and Military Honors will be 11:00 am on Friday, November 8, 2024, in East Linwood Cemetery with Rev. Daniel Siems officiating. Casual attire is preferred.
