Lula Mae Hendrickson, 79, of Oquawka, IL, passed away at 12:05 AM, November 3, 2024 at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice Home, West Burlington, IA.

Lula was born on February 16, 1945 in Light, AR, the daughter of Austin H. and Grace L. (Reese) Fry. She was raised and educated in Light, AR.

She married Bill Hughes in Walnut Ridge, AR on June 6, 1959. Later, she married Clifford Hendrickson in Monmouth, IL on July 12, 1980 and he preceded her in death September 22, 2001.

Lula worked as a cook at Alfano’s in Galesburg, IL and Filling Station 3 in Monmouth, IL. She also worked as a waitress at Meling’s in Monmouth, IL.

Lula loved to go fishing with her dad and her children. She also enjoyed hunting. She was an avid gardener and loved planting a variety of flowers and vegetables. She was a huge animal lover – from her birds and chickens to her beloved dogs. Lula loved being outdoors and enjoyed bird watching, as she had many bird feeders. Hummingbirds were her favorite to watch.

She is survived by her children, Douglas Hughes of Columbus, WI, Willie (Lisa) Hughes of Monmouth, IL, Donna Hughes-Newton of LaHarpe, IL, Christopher Hughes of Galesburg, IL, and Brenda (Roger) Lefler of Oneida, IL; her partner, Gerald Stanley of Oquawka, IL; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clifford Hendrickson of Little York, IL; and stepson, Tony Hendrickson of Little York, IL. 

Cremation rites have been accorded. A private family interment will be in Little York Cemetery, Little York, IL. Memorials can be made to Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice Home, West Burlington, IA and can be sent to the funeral home.  McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL is in charge of the arrangements.
