Mrs. Donna L. Gordon, 91, a lifelong Abingdon resident, passed away at 3:33 pm Saturday, November 30, 2024, at the Allure of Lake Storey.

She was born on March 12, 1933, in Abingdon, the daughter of William and Lucille (Palmer) Wilkins, she attended Abingdon schools and graduated from Abingdon High School in 1951. She married her sweetheart and love of her life, Dewey W. Gordon on September 1, 1951, in Macomb, Illinois. They raised four sons, Jim (and Carolyn “CJ”) Gordon of Abingdon, Michael (and Kim) Gordon of Abingdon, Robert Gordon, Sr. of Foley, Alabama, and Kent (and Sue) Gordon of Galesburg. She loved her sons and daughters-in-law; her family was her pride and joy.

Dewey preceded her in death after 60 years of marriage on May 1, 2011. She also was preceded in death by her son, Jim on April 30, 2023, her parents at an early age and she and her sister, Martha were raised by their grandparents, Frank and Jennie Palmer, who also preceded her in death, as does her sister Sandi Defazio.

Donna is survived by her eight grandchildren, Kate Gordon, Shane (and Jessie) Gordon, Matt (and Ashley) Gordon, Nichole Gordon, Robert (and Beth) Gordon, Jr., Melissa Gordon, Ashley Gordon, and Tyler (and Maria) Gordon; fifteen great grandchildren, Kellen and Evan, Lyla, Beau, Mack and Dewy, Maddox and Chandler, Justin and Marley, Alrick and Kylen, Mason, Maya and Monty. Donna loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren and enjoyed sharing in the many events they participated in. She has one brother, Jim (and Martha) Wilkins of Albert, Arizona and one sister, Martha Filkill of Overland, Kansas. She also leaves behind two special friends, her sister-in-law, Betty Godon of Abingdon and Greta Woolsey of Galesburg.

Donna was a proud homemaker and was very active in the Abingdon community as her sons grew up. She was a member and past president of the Abingdon Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary; she was a member and past president of the Abingdon Junior Women’s Club and was a member of the Abingdon PTO and served on the Ways and Means Committee for many years.

Donna worked at the Brass Factory in Abingdon and the Abingdon Argus. She later became a Unit Organizer for Princess House Crystal, which she sold for 22 years. Donna enjoyed dancing, camping and taking trips in their motor home.

Donna’s family would like to express their gratitude with a special thank you to her caregivers at the Allure of Lake Storey. Donna loved them all.

Donna’s wishes were to be cremated with a private burial in Abingdon Cemetery with her beloved husband, Dewey. Memorials may be offered to the Abingdon Fire Department.
