As the high temperatures and humidity levels have arrived in the local area, look before you lock. Monmouth Police Chief Joe Switzer is reminding drivers to never leave children or pets inside a parked vehicle:
“You let your car sit out in the daytime with the windows up, they heat up really quick on the inside. That is where leaving children in the vehicle, even if you are running in somewhere really quick, don’t do that or your pets also. Pets and small children succumb to those temperatures quickly. You can harm your child or your animal just by leaving them in there for just a few minutes.”
Even on days that don’t reach scorching temperatures, the inside of a vehicle can heat up quickly in a matter of minutes. The AAA Auto Club offers these safety reminders: place something essential next to your child or pet in the backseat as a reminder, if you see a child or pet left alone in a vehicle call 911 and make a habit of checking the backseat each time before exiting the vehicle.
