With the arrival of a new machine, minimally invasive robotics surgeries are underway locally through OSF HealthCare, shares OSF St. Mary’s and Holy Family Medical Center President Lisa DeKezel:

“With the introduction of robotics surgery to our Monmouth and Galesburg markets and Kewanee as well with the da Vinci® 5 being introduced at St. Mary Medical Center. We kicked off our robotics program with our first robotics surgeries performed. It is going very well. It is really exciting to see that innovation in that minimally invasive approach to surgery being brought to the market,” states DeKezel.

“You often see your gallbladder surgeries, your hernia repairs, and appendectomies taking that minimally invasive approach to those procedures. Our surgeons are very excited,” DeKezel adds.

Additionally, DeKezel informs Dr. Brody Stewart will be joining the OSF HealthCare team as a fifth general surgeon for the West Central Illinois market, which encompasses Monmouth, Galesburg, and Kewanee.
