Football season is quickly approaching, and Knox College is officially one month out from its first contest of the 2025 season. The Prairie Fire wrapped up the 2024 campaign with a 3-7 record, earning Midwest Conference wins over Beloit College and Lawrence University. Knox currently holds a 14-25 record under Head Coach Aaron Willits, a Knox College alumnus and decorated collegiate football player. Willits began his coaching career at Knox in 2009, spending two seasons on staff before heading to Concordia College in Minnesota, where he served as offensive coordinator for nine years. During his time at Concordia, the program posted an impressive 62-28 record. Willits returned to Knox in 2021 to take over as head coach of the Prairie Fire. Coach Willits says the program is trending upward after a strong offseason, which included recruiting the largest incoming class in Knox football history.

For the first time in school history, the Prairie Fire will have over 90 players on the roster this fall. Knox opens the season on September 6 with the Lincoln Bowl, traveling to Eureka to take on the Red Devils. The Prairie Fire will look to retain the trophy after last year’s narrow 7-6 win. The following week, they’ll kick off Midwest Conference play with their home opener against Ripon College.
