The Abingdon-Avon Tornado football team was right with Stark County throughout their game last Friday night in week two of the season. The Tornadoes trailed at the half 7-6 before eventually falling 13-12. A-Town actually outgained the normally powerful Stark County offense 321 yards to 261. But six Tornado turnovers led to their undoing. Ryker Darst had 158 rushing yards to lead the Abingdon-Avon offense. Darst and Carson Stenger scored the two touchdowns for A-Town, both on the ground.
This week’s opponent for the Tornadoes will be a likewise (0-2) ballclub, in the West Hancock Titans. West Hancock is coming off two lop-sided losses to perennial powers Farmington and Macomb. Both losses were a combined point differential of 93-34. A-Town head coach Rick Quinn says despite the two blowouts, West Hancock is better than their first two weeks indicate.
