Two Charged with Stealing Construction Equipment in Knox County

On September 19, 2025, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a burglary at a construction site located outside of Victoria, IL.

During the incident, an enclosed trailer containing an estimated $50,000 worth of construction tools and materials were stolen, along with a flatbed trailer.

Detectives were able to determine the location of several of the tools in Galesburg. A search warrant was executed at 1636 Beecher Ave. The suspects were located hiding in the residence and taken into custody.

All of the stolen construction tools and materials were recovered. Detectives located a vehicle used in the commission of the crime, which had been reported stolen in a separate incident. That vehicle was recovered and returned to its rightful owner.

Detectives were able to locate both stolen trailers at a remote location outside of Victoria, IL.

During the investigation Detectives learned that tools had been abandon in remote parts of Knox County and set on fire.

As a result of this investigation, the following individuals have been arrested and charged:

🔹 Rebecca Muckey, 37-year-old female from Galesburg

Charges:

• Theft $10,000–$100,000

• Possession of Stolen Property

• Possession of Methamphetamine

• Theft $500–$10,000

• Arson

🔹 Luke Simkins, 39-year-old male from Galesburg

Charges:

• Theft $10,000–$100,000

• Possession of Stolen Property

• Possession of Methamphetamine

• Theft $500–$10,000

• Arson

Sheriff Harlan would like to commend the diligent work of the deputies, whose swift actions led to the successful recovery of all stolen property and the apprehension of the suspects involved.

All subjects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Two people from Galesburg are accused of stealing construction equipment in Knox County.  Authorities say deputies responded to a burglary this past weekend at a construction site outside of Victoria.  An enclosed trailer containing around 50-thousand-dollars worth of construction tools and materials was stolen, along with a flatbed trailer.  Investigators later located the suspects hiding in a home on Beecher Avenue.  Rebecca Muckey and Luke Simkins were arrested and all of the stolen construction tools and materials were recovered.
