Construction on Harlem Avenue in Monmouth continues despite some underground delays, reports Mayor Rod Davies:

“A gas main was not where it was supposed to be exactly and when they started putting in some of the storm sewer they ran into some placement issues and it was going to be three or four months for the utility to come out, so we had to change our plans, put in a manhole and then redivert the storm sewer. We ran into a fiber cable that was not recorded, and we had to wait a couple weeks while they came out and moved that and another couple of weeks to make sure everything was operational. IDOT is actually running this project because of the significant amount of funding that is coming from the Illinois Department of Transportation, which they demand we get all of the underground done before we can begin with the roadway.”

Throughout this current construction on Harlem Avenue, traffic continues to be one-way heading west out to the bypass around Monmouth.
