No charges will be filed after a McDonough County sheriff’s deputy’s AR-15 went off in a school parking lot earlier this month. The Macomb Police Department says officers learned that Chief Deputy Adam Cremer’s rifle was stored in a secure weapon lock within his patrol vehicle parked outside the MacArthur Early Childhood Center’s on October 2nd. While removing a folding table from the car, the gun fired a round after it was bumped. No one was hurt. Investigators determined that weapon was stored securely in the vehicle, but the safety was off, with the lever in the “fire” position. The State Appellate Prosecutor’s Office made the final decision not to file criminal charges.
