The United girls golf team has qualified for the IHSA State Tournament for the second straight year. The Red Storm put on quite a show at their sectional tournament in Pontiac last week, turning in one of their best performances of the season. United finished second overall, just one shot behind sectional champion Tri-Valley. Leading the way was Meredith Yung, who fired an impressive 77 to earn sectional medalist honors. United followed Yung’s lead with strong scores from Paige Christianson, who shot a 90, and both Jalyn Wallace and Abigail Kendall, who carded 91s. Rounding out the scoring for the Red Storm were Kennedy Martin with a 94 and Elly Hinton with a 117.

Here’s Athletic Director Jeremy Sharp with more on the team’s trip to state:

The United Girls had a send-off for the tournament after school yesterday before heading down to Red Tail Run Golf Course in Decatur. The Red Storm will play their practice round on Thursday, with State Finals action beginning on Friday. United will get started with Elly Hinton, who tees off at 8:30 a.m. Scores can be followed live throughout the weekend on the iWanamaker app.
