With just a few high school fall sports championships yet to be decided, it’s almost time for winter sports to get underway for our local schools. United High School Athletic Director Jeremy Sharp shares some important news about the United Girls Basketball team ahead of their season starting next week at the ROWVA/Williamsfield-Ridgewood Thanksgiving Tournament:
United’s situation is not unique. Perennial LTC power Annawan, a program with a rich history that includes a third-place finish at state in 2013 and state titles in 2014 and 2017, is also dealing with low numbers and has canceled their JV and varsity girls’ basketball season for this year.
United will host their Red Storm Winter Kickoff tomorrow night, with dinner starting at 5:00, followed by the introduction of the winter sports teams.
