Wayne A. Green, 100, of Abingdon, Illinois, passed away at 8:55 pm Saturday, December 12, 2025, at Macomb Post Acute Care Center in Macomb, Illinois.

Wayne was born on April 19, 1925, in Oquawka, Illinois, the son of Fred and Emma (Pogemiller) Green. Wayne graduated from Galesburg High School in 1943, and shortly after joined the US Marine Corp, serving from 1943-1946 during WWII. He was a member of the Abingdon American Legion Post 381 and The Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Wayne married Shirley Winchel on March 30,1947, in Abingdon. Together they had one daughter, Vicki Green. Wayne worked for the Admiral/Maytag Corporation for over 44 years, retiring in 1987. He was a Mason with the Abingdon Masonic Lodge 185. Wayne was a member of the Abingdon Christian Church where he was a deacon and a member of the men’s choir. He loved to sing and was also a member of a barbershop quartet that enjoyed entertaining at nursing homes. He also served on the Abingdon School Board for 10 years.

Wayne was an avid sports fan, enjoying most sports. He and a close friend coached a successful girls softball team for many years. Wayne and Shirley also followed the Rushville Lady Rockets basketball team coached by Vicki for 28 years. Wayne never missed a single game. After he retired, Wayne loved carving small shoes out of wood that he would give to his family and friends.

Wayne was preceded in death by his wife of 75 years, Shirley, his parents, four brothers, and two sisters. He is survived by his daughter, Vicki, of Macomb, and many nieces and nephews. Vicki would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Macomb Post Acute Care Center for taking excellent care of her dad for the past 3 years.

Visitation is scheduled for 12:30-1:30 pm Saturday, December 20, 2025, at the Abingdon Christian Church. Graveside services, officiated by Rev. Linda Mowrer, will follow at 2:00 pm at the Abingdon Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the Abingdon American Legion Post 381. A reception provided by the Christian Church will follow the service. Memorials may be made to the Abingdon Christian Church. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel is assisting his family with arrangements. Online condolences may be offered at www.h-p-w.com
