The United Red Storm girls basketball team is less than a week away from postseason play. Before turning their attention to regional action, United will host West Central on Wednesday in a Lincoln Trail Conference tournament makeup game.

United then opens regional play as the No. 9 seed with a quarterfinal matchup on Saturday against North Fulton, a team the Red Storm faced earlier this season, says head coach Chris Olson.

“They were our first game coming out of Christmas break. Really good program there, very disciplined defensively, and they’ve done some good things over the last few years. That was a close game. I think they stretched it to 11, but we pushed back and it ended up being about a five-point finish. It’ll be one of those games where you see how much you’ve grown since then. It’s a 9-8 matchup, so we should be excited to go out there and see where we’re at. Anytime you can get a regional win, that’s good for building for the future, and those are hard to come by.”

United will host West Central Wednesday night at 6 o’clock in their final regular-season game. Then regional play begins Saturday at Spoon River Valley High School, with United tipping off against North Fulton at 1 o’clock.
