As utility bills have increased for families across the country, Ameren Illinois has contributed an additional $2 million to their Warm Neighbors Cool Friends program to assist moderate-income customers in 2026, explains Executive Director Susan Sams:

“LIHEAP stands for Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program through the state and federal government. They help zero to two hundred percent of the federal poverty level. Our program starts where their program stops. What we do is we match whatever the customer pays in the last 45 days, up to $500. We are able to help in this heating season that goes through May 31st and then the cooling season we will match up to $400. Then heating starts again on October 1st, and we will be able to match another $500. So, a customer could receive $1,400 in this calendar year on their Ameren bills.”
