Fighting Illini Women’s & Men’s Basketball Teams Advance in NCAA Tournaments

The Fighting Illini women’s basketball team is playing in the second round of the women’s NCAA basketball tournament.  The seven-seen Illini beat number ten-seed Colorado Saturday, 66 to 57 to advance.  It’s the first win for the ladies in the NCAA Tournament since the 99-2000 season.  They take on the two-seed Vanderbilt tonight in Nashville.

The Fighting Illini men’s basketball team is headed to the Sweet 16.  The Illini beat VCU in the Round of 32 on Saturday, 76 to 55.  Illinois gets a rough draw, facing the Houston Cougars in Houston on Thursday.  This is the tenth Sweet 16 appearance for the Illini since 1975 and second time in the past three years under head coach Brad Underwood.
