Organizing, promoting, and facilitating animal rescue operations throughout Western Illinois is the mission of the Western Illinois Animal Rescue. Run by volunteers and funded by donations, Board Member John Kennedy says their annual Furry Friends Fundraiser greatly boosts daily operations:
“We fund our organization through gifts, cash donations, requests, memorials, but the Furry Friends Fundraiser annually is our largest event to raise funds. There was a very good turnout. Net proceeds were about $18,500, which is consistent with previous years. We had 96 silent auction and 10 live auction items, all donated by local businesses and citizens. We had for the first time an Adopt a Dog and Adopt a Cat event, that went over very well. All in all, we were really pleased with the outcome. This year, all of our fundraising is dedicated to our Veterinary Medicine Fund.”
Currently, there are six dogs and fourteen cats available for adoption through the Western Illinois Animal Rescue.
