The Knox County Krocodile YMCA Swim Team will be represented by several swimmers at the National Meet in Greensboro, NC in early April. Following a successful season in the fall by the Galesburg/Monmouth-Roseville/United girls swimming co-op, they took that momentum into the YMCA swim season.
Galesburg High School senior Lily Furrow and Monmouth-Roseville senior Hayden Johnson both swam individual events at the IHSA State Finals in November. Those two joined Galesburg sophomore Faith Warren and junior Macie Nelson on a state qualifying 400 freestyle relay team. Furrow would just miss the 50 yard freestyle final day by a mere .1 seconds and the 100 yard freestyle final day by a mere 1/2 second.
The YMCA district meet was held last weekend in Springfield. Many Krocodile swimmers had great finishes, with some hitting the National Meet qualifying mark. A handful of those national qualifiers were guests on the WRAM Morning Show on Friday. They are raising money to help pay for their trip to Nationals in Greensboro, NC. The four girls that qualified for the IHSA state finals in the 400 freestyle, banded together once again and qualified for Greensboro in the 200 medley relay. They were joined by qualifying relay alternate, Camdyn Miller, in the studio to talk about their current season and share details on fund raisers they are holding to help off-set the cost of their trip to North Carolina. The girls are holding a raffle. Lily Furrow gave information on the raffle that is currently underway.
Along with the raffle, the girls will also be doing a “Bag for Tips” fund raiser at Hy-Vee in Galesburg on March 8 and 22nd from 11-3. You can also donate directly by VenMo.
