For seven decades, Vickroy’s Furniture has been a cornerstone in Monmouth and the surrounding communities. Siblings and Co-Owners Rick Vickroy and Dawn Schisler reflect on the history and legacy of the family-owned store as they celebrate their 70th Anniversary:
“They came to Monmouth to open the store in March of 1956. My dad, of course, he ran the store from the get-go, and it has been a family business the whole time. My mother, she was a secretary, sales, everything except delivery in the store. I have done everything and delivery in the store. We started off just with this first main building on the east end and the further west building as well,” recalls Vickroy.
“You used to have to go out the first room, onto the sidewalk, and into the third room. Back in the early 1970s, he acquired the middle room, giving us three large showrooms and we do use our basement as a really nice area to show all La-Z-Boy recliners, sofas, loveseats, and sectionals. There are five of us Vickroy children and we all started out dusting before we were even sixteen years old. So, we have done this all of our life,” Schisler adds.
