Young Red Storm Squad Learning Through Early Season Tests

Share

The United Red Storm softball team was able to get in three games last week.

United picked up their second win of the season last Tuesday with a dominant 16-1 victory over South Fulton.

The Red Storm wrapped up the week with a trip to Farmington, falling 15-0, followed by a home matchup against perennial power Rockridge, where they dropped another one 15-0.

The young United squad is continuing to put the pieces together, and Head Coach Mike Maguire says developing depth will be a key moving forward.

“It’s really important. First of all, you’ve got players on the team that aren’t getting in games, but they’re at practice every day working hard and helping everyone else get better too. And how do you improve without playing against competition? That’s how the program gets better. You need depth. Kids get sick or miss games, and you’ve got to have someone ready to step in. The only way to get there is by developing younger players and getting them experience.”

Weather could play a factor this week, but United is scheduled to return to action Thursday with a trip to take on LTC foe Princeville. The JV squad is also expected to get in a few innings following the varsity game.

The Red Storm will then travel to Mendon Unity on Saturday before hosting a JV matchup against North Fulton on Monday.
