The 4th Annual Autism Awareness Event will be held on April 23rd, from 5-7PM at the Galesburg Public Library supported by Senator Mike Halpin, the Stone Hayes Center for Independent Living and State Representative Dan Swanson. The event is held annually to help local residents learn more about Autism and to show your support in bringing awareness to the Autism community. There will be food, drinks and activities for all ages as well as some giveaways. Local event coordinator Nicholas McMahill shares how he wanted to design an event about autism for the community after his own autism diagnosis around the 9th grade:
“I am living a normal life as usual as somebody on the spectrum. I saw there was a need in Galesburg. When I started this event, there was not a lot of advocacy for awareness in our area. That is how this event started.”
