In the seconds that matter most, 911 dispatchers are ready to answer the call. Local 911 Operator Alexis Lindsey offers insight behind the scenes and how you could join the team:
“We dispatch for fifteen or sixteen different agencies, not always at the same time obviously. We answer non-emergent calls, emergency calls, Crimestoppers calls; all of that. It gets kind of crazy in there,” says Lindsey.
“All you need is a high school diploma or GED to get started. It is a three month training period. Really, as long as you can multitask and learn easily, it is a pretty easy job to learn. Being able to stay calm but also empathetic to what they are going through is good to have,” Lindsey adds.
Warren County’s 911 Dispatch Center is housed in the Monmouth Police Department.
