Working smoke alarms cut the risk of dying in a home fire in half. It’s that simple — and that important.

Once again, the Galesburg Fire Department is partnering with the American Red Cross to bring the Sound the Alarm initiative to our community. This year, we’re not just installing free smoke alarms for Galesburg residents — we’re also calling on neighbors to join us and help make it happen.

For Residents: If your home needs a smoke alarm — or you’re not sure whether yours is working — request a free installation today. Our teams will come to you.
For Volunteers: This is your chance to make a direct, measurable difference in your community. No special skills required — just a few hours and a willingness to show up.

Installation Details:

WHEN: Saturday, April 18, 2026
TIME: 8:30am – 2:30pm
WHERE: Galesburg, IL

Together, we can make sure every home in Galesburg has a working smoke alarm before the end of this campaign.

Request a free smoke alarm installation or sign up to volunteer by completing the online form at Sound the Alarm Galesburg.
