Through a 21st Century Grant from the Regional Office of Education #33, Monmouth-Roseville High School has launched a Community Service Club, informs Teacher and Organizer Chrissy Russell:

“I brought the idea to the kids, and I had a huge group that decided they wanted to help. There has not been one single time that I have asked what they think about something and have told me no. It is ‘yeah we can do that’ or ‘how can we help.’ We have our fluorescent yellow shirts because we will be doing trash pickup around town and everybody recognizes that those are the Community Service kids,” reports Russell.

“Every month we have a contest. Last month we had a contest for pop tabs because those can be donated to McDonald’s for the Ronald McDonald House. We were able to collect enough pop tabs to fill an entire Marshall’s bag. We have raked leaves. We have shoveled snow. We have helped out at the Jamieson Community Center with things that they have had going on. These students have just jumped in and really made some good connections with the elderly and the younger kids. We have so many ideas that we are going to do,” Russell adds.

Russell says Community Service Club projects with Monmouth-Roseville High School students will continue through the summer.
