Out of an abundance of caution, the Warren County Courthouse was closed on April 15th and 16th to allow for an engineering inspection to be conducted after concerns were raised about the structural condition of the building, reports Building and Grounds Chair Sean Cavanaugh:
“A building even 130 years old can settle or shift from time to time and that was kind of how things started. They noticed one day that some of the doors weren’t shutting, they were getting caught, stuck and some people thought they had heard a noise. Then they really started taking a look and the ceiling had developed a crack in the tiles, so we need to know what is behind that. I had spoken with a lead architect for a firm, and he said that if there are other things that happen in succession over a period of days you have to have someone look at it. It could be the simple wear and tear, or it could be something more serious. So, in speaking with the Chief Judge, the Sheriff, Mr. Person, and talking with all kinds of people, it was out of an abundance of caution that we closed the building.”
The Warren County Courthouse did reopen last Friday and a written report from the inspecting engineers is forthcoming. The Warren County Board will hold their April meeting this Wednesday, April 22nd beginning at 5 pm.
